Nine(9) aspirants have successfully gone through vetting to contest the Parliamentary Primaries of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the North East Region.

The NPP currently holds four of the six constituencies in the Region after the 2020 elections.

Walewale, Yunyoo, Yagaba-Kubore and Chereponi constituencies are being held by the NPP whereas; Nalerigu-Gambaga and Bunkpurugu are held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In accordance with the party’s directives and modalities issued by the National Executive Committee (NEC)  for the conduct of parliamentary primaries in orphaned constituencies, the North East Regional Elections Committee opened nominations on the 11th July,2023 and closed on 10th August 2023 as directed by the NEC and National Council.

The Secretary of the North East Regional Executive Elections Committee, Yamusah Ibrahim indicated in a statement that the Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency which has seven (7) aspirants scheduled vetting aspirants on Wednesday, November 15, 2024 as well as the Bunkpurugu Constituency.

The NPP seeks to reclaim both the Bunkpurugu and Nalerigu-Gambaga seats which for a number of terms has been the preserve of the ruling party.
