Argentina forward Lionel Messi has won a record extending eighth Balon d’Or at the ceremony held at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
Messi finished ahead of Manchester City forward Erling Braut Haaland and Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe who finished second and third respectively.
Messi previously won the award in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021 before winning his eighth on Monday night in Paris.
Messi, now at Inter Miami, led Argentina to World Cup success in Qatar in December 2022.

The Inter Miami forward was in brilliant form for Argentina as he scored seven goals and won five man of the match awards at the tournament in Qatar.
Messi has been involved in 13 goals since joining Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer in August.
