Hearts of Oak continuing their inconsistent form when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Berekum Chelsea.

The Phobians had to rely on a late strike by Gideon Asante Yeboah to snatch a point.

Hearts had the game’s first opportunity when Kashala Ramos was fouled at the edge of the Chelsea box after 14 minutes. However, Salifu Ibrahim over hit his cross, allowing goalkeeper Sekyere Gregory to palm it to safety.

Ten minutes later, Chelsea had their chance and they made no mistake when Kofi Essien fired past Richmond Ayi. The Phobians were slow to react to a shortly taken set piece as Essien took full advantage and shot underneath Ayi before the Phobians could react.

Hearts poured men forward in search of the leveler but were not successful.

They were nearly punished for being too adventurous when Essien attempted to beat Ayi again with another snap shot. This time, however, Ayi was on hand to make the save in stoppage time.

Back from recess, the Phobians made two changes as Gideon Asante and Siedu Suraj replaced Raphael Amponsah and Martin Karikari.

The substitutions paid off when Suraj set up Gideon Asante for the leveler just ten minutes later. There were concerns about the quality of goalkeeping as Gregory Obeng Sekyere came off his line but could not react in time, allowing Asante to shoot into the empty net.

Spurred on by the goal, Hearts launched a late onslaught for the winner but found Chelsea’s defense to be impenetrable.

Hearts are now 6th on the league table with 16 points, while Chelsea move into 4th place with 20 points. The 2011 champions are now unbeaten in their last five league games, having won four and drawn the other match.
