CEO of Lyvv Cosmetics, Victorine Sarr Awuah has complained bitterly about the racism she had to suffer while working with L’Oréal.

She says even though she was an executive-level employee, she always had to prove why she deserved to be on that seat.

Victorine Sarr Awuah who spoke to Accra-based TV3 in an interview said she was fought everywhere in the company as people could not fathom why she had moved to that level regardless of her qualification.

Victorine Sarr Awuah said even after working with the company for three and a half years, she had to quit her job because of this,

“As part of my journey, I enjoyed everything. There were some very good parts and not-so-good parts that’s why I left to start my own company. The racism, I felt it so much when I was at L’Oréal.

Black, young, Senegalese, African. I was not entry-level, I was executive level and I was fought everywhere I was going. What are you doing here, I had to justify every day. Who are you, what have you done, why are you sitting on this table, it gets tiring at some point always having to defend or show or justify. It was very very exhausting”.
