Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Murtala Mohammed has indicated that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government is endemically corrupt.
His comment comes on the back of the Government’s 618 delegation to the Climate Change conference in Dubai.
To him, the numbers are a defeat from the directives by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on travels by his appointees.
“All the MPs from NPP and NDC deserve to be there, but Ministers are there, Deputy Ministers are there, every single Minister was there and in some Ministries, you have the Minister and the deputy Minister who are all there doing what?
I think Ghana is the only country with those huge numbers at a time when the President himself announced that he was going to curtail the number of foreign travels and that foreign travel can only be engaged by appointees of the government on events and activities that are hugely important. This is a mockery of the directive given by the President. Couldn’t we have had just the directors of the Ministries attending? Couldn’t the foreign Minister represent the President? Other countries didn’t have their President attending,” he said.
He continued “This government is endemically corrupt, they cannot avoid it. The kind of money that they will spend…air ticketing alone, accommodation…I think that we need to get the figures and whether the government needed to go with those huge numbers when the government is telling us that bondholders should make away with some of the money because the country is struggling. When you’re telling us to tighten our belt when in actual sense you have even removed your belt hooks, isn’t this a mockery of the fight to reduce government expenditure? “
