The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission of Ghana, Martin Kwaku Ayisi, found himself in heated exchanges with the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi following the display of raw lithium in a studio.
Mr. Ayisi mounted a spirited defense of the Lithium deal between the government and Barari DV Ghana Limited, emphasizing its positive impact on the country.
He clarified that the lease is pending ratification by Parliament and expressed openness to constructive advice and suggestions.

“This deal is not to be taken lightly. We have the people’s best interests at heart, and we are mindful of how and when to proceed with this deal.” He emphasized
He suggested that criticisms of the deal may stem from ignorance, implying that critics may not have thoroughly reviewed the agreement.
However, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition NDC, disagreed with Ayisi’s perspective. Gyamfi argued that the deal does not serve Ghana’s best interests and urged Parliament to block its ratification.
Gyamfi raised concerns about the deal’s transparency, fairness, and overall benefit to the Ghanaian people.
He accused the government of insufficient engagement with local communities and stakeholders before finalizing the deal, leaving critical questions unanswered.
In an effort to demonstrate the government’s commitment to the deal, Ayisi brought raw lithium to the studio, inviting both the show host and Gyamfi to feel it.
Despite this gesture, Gyamfi remained unconvinced, maintaining that the deal lacked transparency and raised suspicions about potential backroom deals and hidden agendas.
Ayisi reiterated that the deal is a well-thought-out decision beneficial to the country. He concurred with the importance of a feasibility study, which is expected to be completed by February.
