President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to work to ensure that next year’s General Elections are free, fair and transparent so that Ghana can continue to be a “bastion” of democracy in Africa.

President Akufo-Addo noted that everyone has a role to play in ensuring that choosing our Members of Parliament and President does not degenerate into violence so that the Fourth Republic, which is in its 30th year, can continue to exist and guarantee the development of the country.

The President appealed in his 2023 Christmas Message to Ghanaians:

“Next year is an important year in our democratic journey. We will hold on 7th December 2024, the ninth General Election in the history of the Fourth Republic, which has witnessed the longest period of stable constitutional governance in our entire history. We all have a duty to conduct ourselves in such a manner that we have a free, fair, and transparent election that will ensure that the Ghanaian people choose in peace and serenity, the person and persons who will manage their affairs on their behalf for the next four years, “he said.

He stressed that he is confident that Ghanaians will prove yet again that they are a peaceful people interested in deepening democratic practice in the country.

“I am confident that yet again Ghanaians will rise to the occasion and reinforce the status of Ghana as a bastion of democracy on the African continent,” he added.
