President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Monday, October 16, 2023, visit districts that have been severely hit by floods following the spillage of the Akosombo dam.

Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin who confirmed this on his Facebook page revealed that the President will be joined on this tour by members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee

“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will on Monday, 16th October 2023, visit the districts severely hit by the floods occasioned by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam. The President will be joined on this tour by members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee, which has been set up to coordinate the Government’s response to the flooding and to help bring relief to those affected. The President arrives from his 4-day official visit to the United States this evening”, he wrote.

Hundreds of houses have been submerged and roads cut off in parts of the Volta and Eastern regions following the spillage of the Akosombo dam.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) as of Friday, October 13, 20 has said that over 1,000 people have been displaced by the floods.

The spillage of the dam has also caused significant damage to infrastructure in the affected areas.

NADMO has said that it is working to provide relief to those affected by the floods.
