A Ghanaian journalist based in the United States, Seidu Adamu, has been attacked by a hoodlum among the Black Stars security team.

The unfortunate incident occurred at the Black Stars team hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina, ahead of Ghana’s international friendly with Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium.

According to the sports journalist, he had visited the team hotel to meet Nathaniel Obeng, a sports journalist with the Media General Group.

However, he was confronted by ‘Aziz’, a member of the Black Stars security detail.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Seidu Adamu said: ”For me, it was a normal day to cover activities of the national team, but individually or collectively, the people around the Black Stars had a different idea. At this moment, I can not say the attack on me was planned by the top hierarchy of the Ghana FA or a singular act of senseless Bravado from my attacker, whom I identified as AZIZ. Since the Leadership of the Ghana FA cannot guarantee my safety in and around the National Team, I have taken the hard decision to return to my base and not make the journey to Tennessee where the Black Stars are due to play the US Men’s National Team,” he said.

Adamu, a known critic of the Kurt Okraku led administration, has since reported the near-death experience to the police in Charlotte, North Carolina.

”I did not sustain any major injury as a result of the attack, but I still feel some pain in my neck and arm and bruises around my ears. To have yourself strangled in the neck by a near 7-foot tall, 350-pound is no Joke, but Thank I Am alive and moving I did not provoke anyone, neither did I say, act, or place myself in a situation that called for such Barbaric acts against me. I initially reported the case with the Barclay Down Police Department in Charlotte , North Carolina, and will head to make similar reports in Maryland upon advice.” he concluded.

This is the latest incident of an attempt to suppress free speech and dissent by the Kurt Okraku led administration.

It would be recalled that in the first month of Kurt Okraku’s reign, Jiji Alifoe, a known confidant of Kurt Okraku and a director at Dream FC, attacked broadcast journalist Mohammed Amin Lamptey for his consistent criticism of the GFA President.

At least year’s World Cup in Qatar, Muftawu Abdulai Nabila, a journalist with the Multimedia Group, was nearly attacked after Kurt Okraku allegedly ”asked Jiji Alifoe to instruct supporters to attack” him.

There has been other reports of the GFA calling heads of media houses ostensibly to silence hard-hitting journalists.

The GFA is yet to comment on the latest statement.
