Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo Markin is of the view that Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who failed as a Deputy Finance Minister, has no moral right to criticize Ken Ofori-Atta’s management of Ghana’s economy.
He says Ken Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister has been marred by adversity and a number of global challenges that have been a great worry; therefore, it would be wrong for Ato Forson to say his management has been the worst.
“The Hon. Minority Leader is the same Member of Parliament(MP) who was a Deputy Minister of Finance when the economy was in its worst state. Mr Speaker, this is the same Dr. Ato Forson, who was Deputy Finance Minister, who even without COVID could not, with his boss, the Finance Minister, and their government, implement the Free SHS.
Mr Speaker, if today this government has implemented free SHS, and Mr Speaker today the figures bear us out. We have a transition enrollment rate of over 80% as compared to the 55% under your era, and today, because of the liberties of opposition, you’re telling the Hon. Finance Minister that he has underperformed when your own administration had the worst performance,” he said.
He continued, “Let me assure you that the figures cannot be toyed with. Dr. Ato Forson, let me remind you that your government could not implement a single landing beach project. You came into this house with a loan and you chickened out and came to do capping. This government has successfully heard the cry of the fishermen, and we have constructed 12 landing beach sites. You come from the Central Region, and you’ve not been able to do that for the people of the Central Region, and you’re telling him that he has underperformed?
Eii Ato, Eii Dr Forson, Are you saying that, as a Deputy Minister, you did better than Ken Ofori Atta? Is that what you’re saying? Mr Speaker, it’s the same NDC with its own men who have no more cards to play, they’ve played their only joker on the scorecard, and today you tell us that this economy is in a worse state? It was worse…With all that we experienced with COVID-19 and with all that we’ve experienced in the global space, we have managed to keep the light on. We inherited Dumsor, we’ve been able to keep the light on, we inherited a situation where children could not go to secondary schools. Mr Speaker, we are ready for you, today, tomorrow and any other day,” he said while speaking on the floor of Parliament.
