A front runner in the flagbearership contest of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong has attributed the poor showing of Alan Kyeremanten in the Super Delegates election of the party to his inability to become a Member of Parliament (MP) on the ticket of the NPP.
For him, Mr Kyeremanten’s inability to become an MP has greatly hampered his chances of becoming flagbearer of the NPP as evidenced in his poor performance at the Super Delegates Conference which whittled down the number of aspirants for the flagbearer position of the NPP from ten to five.
Even though Mr Kyeremanten had been tipped to beat Kennedy Agyapong, he emerged third behind Kennedy Agyapong with far less votes than those of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the winner and Kennedy Agyapong, who came second.
For him Mr Kyeremanten’s laid-back nature, especially regarding his presence in the media, did not help his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 General Elections.
“And I believe that Honourable Alan made the mistake of not being forced to become a Member of Parliament. For me, my consistency on radio and television in good and bad times has made me well-known,” Mr Agyapong said.
Mr Kyeremanten has resigned from the NPP and has formed the Movement for Change in order to run for the presidency in 2024 as an independent candidate.
