Tottenham Hotspurs coach Ange Postecoglou has been at the heart of the club’s remarkable start to the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Until last weeks defeat to Chelsea, Spurs were the only unbeaten team in the Premier League. Although another defeat to Wolves has since followed, Spurs retain a great deal of respect, by playing football that is easy on the eye, and on occasion, breathtaking.
Unsurprisingly, Ange has won the admiration of many, including even the ever critical UK press. His candor and humility have been a refreshing break from the usually abrasive, defensive and sometimes cocky style of Premier League managers.
So what else is there to Ange Postecoglou, the architect of Spurs remarkable start to the season?
Postecoglou and his wife, Georgia celebrate after he led Celtic to the title
A family man
Postecoglou is married to Georgia, a marketing executive by profession who has practised South Melbourne. Ange and Georgia have three sons; James, Max and Alexi.
The eldest of their sons; James, currently serves with the Hellenic Armed Forces and is based in Lemnos.
Greek ancestry
Angelos Postecoglou was born on 27 August 1965 in Nea Filadelfeia, a suburb of Athens, Greece. His father, Dimitris (“Jim”), migrated to Australia in 1970 due to the economic turmoil caused by the Greek military coup in 1967. Postecoglou was just five years old at the time. He grew up in Melbourne Victoria.

Pioneer of Australian excellence
In 2022, Postecoglou became the first Australian to win a league title in Europe when he led Celtic to the Scottish Premiership. For his effort, the Australian was named the league Manager of the Month five times in his first season, for October 2021 and January to April 2022. He also won the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year and Scotland Football Writers Awards Manager of the Year.
Postecoglou loves winning
I would pardon you if you did not know this, but Postecoglou is a winner. The 57-year-old has won four league titles since in his professional managerial career. His successive league titles with Celtic account for two of the four titles he has won . He won his first Scottish premiership title during the 2021/22 season and successfully defended it this term.
Record breaking start
They are top of the table and are currently unbeaten, giving fans hope that they could even challenge for the title this season.
In his first nine matches in the Premier League, Postecoglou guided Spur to an impressive 23 points. That is a record for a manager in their first season at a Premier League club.
Not even the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson or latter-day greats like Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have managed that.
That tally is 3 points more than Mourinho managed in his first year at Chelsea in 2004/05, and Pep Guardiola, who accumulated 20 points from nine games in the 2016/17 season.
