Spokesperson for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako has called on Franklin Cudjoe and Bright Simons, President and Vice President respectively of policy think tank Imani Africa, to apologize for misleading Ghanaians on whether or not Ghana has an individualised credit scoring system.
Following a denial by XDSData Ghana Limited to the effect that it was engaged in undertaking individualised credit scoring in Ghana, Dr Boako noted that it would be appropriate that Franklin Cudjoe and Bright Simons apologize for having stated earlier that the company was doing individualised credit scoring in the country.
“A few of our friends are wondering if it will be out of place for you to come and amend your earlier writings on your positions on the debate on whether or not Ghana has a credit scoring system on account of the statement issued by @XdsData_Gh,” Dr Boako tweeted at Bright Simons who had made the claim.
Imani Africa’s Franklin Cudjoe and Bright Simons had stated that XDSData Ghana Limited was engaged in individualised credit scoring in Ghana but the company in a statement denied the claim.
“The mandatory use of the Ghana card from the 1st of July, 2022 for all financial transactions has seen Data Providers submitting Ghana Card Information to the bureau. Credit scoring models require unique identifiers to fully map information. The penetration of the Ghana Card information supplied to the bureau is progressing at a slow pace. In collaboration with the Bank of Ghana, we have been tracking the Ghana Card penetration which stands at 35 percent as at the end of the last quarter of 2023. This is based on 11,067,161 unique active loan customers submitted by Data Providers.
