He was a Portuguese Rafeiro do Alentejo purebred dog.
The National Union of Veterinarians, which oversees the Portuguese government’s pet database, confirmed Bobi’s age.
He was born on May 11, 1992, and spent his entire life in the village of Conqueiros, close to Portugal’s west coast, with the Costa family.
He was a “loving and loyal companion” who will be sorely missed, according to them.
He was the oldest canine in recorded history, and the world over, people were moved by his story.
