The Court of Arbitration for Sports has dismissed King Faisal FC’s appeal filed against the decision of the Appeals Committee of Ghana Football Association (GFA).
In a decision announced on Friday, October 27, 2023 to both parties, CAS confirmed the decision of the Appeals Committee of the GFA in the case of King Faisal FC versus Tamale City FC.
King Faisal first filed a case at the Disciplinary Committee after their 2022/23 Ghana Premier League match day 30 game with Tamale City, which took place at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on May 6.
In its case before the committee, the Kumasi-based club argued that Tamale City FC fielded an unqualified player; Isaac Mensah/Jireh Kojo Nissi, during the match but the case was dismissed by the Disciplinary Committee.
In July, King Faisal challenged the Appeal’s Committee ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and filed a separate case, seeking to injunct the commencement of the Ghana Premier and Division One Leagues.
The decision meant King Faisal FC’s quest to prevent their relegation from the betPawa Premier League to the Division One League Zone 2 and the start of the two leagues until CAS renders its final decision in the substantive case against the GFA, was been rejected.
King Faisal are currently playing in the Division One League Zone 2 after suffering relegation after the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
