Ghana head coach Chris Houghton has rejected West Ham’s plea for Mohammed Kudus to join the AFCON training camp a few days later.
West Ham’s plea was to enable the Ghanaian be available for the Premier League match versus Brighton on Tuesday night.
However, the decision was rejected by the Ghana manager who does not want to risk injury for his star player.
Kudus has scored ten goals in all competitions for West Ham in half a season.
FIFA regulations require clubs to release player’s on New Years Day from training to travel to training camps which start on January 1, 2024, for the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Ghana’s camp will begin on January 1, 2023 in Kumasi.
Kudus is expected to be named in Ghana’s AFCON squad set to be announced on Monday.
Ghana will camp in Kumasi for ten days before enplaning to Ivory Coast for the tournament.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique.
