Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has missed out on Ghana’s list of players selected for the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

On Monday Ghana coach Chris Hughton announced Ghana’s final list of players.

Partey’s omission was a surprise to a section of Ghanaians considering he started training Arsenal’s first team last week.

Speaking at the Alisa Hotel on Monday, the former Brighton and Hove manager said: “Partey is an exceptional player and we would have loved to have him for the tournament.”

“The reality however is that he is just recovering from a serious injury. He is not ready for first team action and so we could not have included him in the team”.

Ghana will begin their pre-tournament camp in Kumasi on Tuesday.
The four-time African champions will play Namibia on January 8 in their only preparatory friendly before flying to Ivory Coast on January 10.
