Counsellor at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr Lydia Aframea Dankyi has said there is a wrong perception by most people who think counselling is for those in crisis.
According to the Head of the Counselling Unit at the College of Distance Education (CoDe) there is a developmental and preventive aspect of counselling which everyone needs.
She remarked, as monitored by MyNewsGh.com “As for counselling everyone needs it that’s why one of our principles states that counselling is for all whether you are young or old.
“Most often some people think that you have to be involved in a certain problem before you seek the services of a counsellor,” she said on Property FM in an interview with Amansan Krakye.
“Every worker needs a counsellor to help them plan for life after retirement when they are no longer working actively as they used to.
“We also have developmental counselling but people think that counselling is all about crisis and when you’re involved in a certain challenge before.
She ended “We need to engage in more such conversation for people to know that counselling is not all about having a problem but there is also the preventive aspect”.
