Broadcast companies DAZN and Sky Sports have retained the rights to broadcast live Serie A matches in Italy for the next five seasons.
This follows a majority decision by the Italy’s topflight clubs to approve their respective bids worth at least €4.5 billion on Monday.
However, Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis, one of the three out of the 20 clubs to have voted against the decision, strongly criticized it.
“It’s a total defeat for Italian football, these deals will be the death of Italian football,” he told reporters, interrupting Serie A Chief Executive Luigi De Siervo during a press briefing.
Comcast’s unit Sky Italia offered some €200 million to co-broadcast three out of 10 Serie A games per matchday.
Currently, Serie A generates €930 million per season from the sale of its TV rights in Italy. The current deal expires in June next year.
