Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is contemplating rescinding the appointment of head coach Rudi Garcia over unimpressive performances, according to reports in Italy.

Napoli have struggled for consistency this season, in both Serie A and UEFA Champions League under Rudi Garcia.

Rudi Garcia who was appointed in July following the exit of Luciano Spalleti, has failed to maintain the high standards set by his predecessor.

Sunday night’s defeat to Fiorentina was Napoli’s second of the season. The Partenopei have won four matches, drawn the other two and are currently fifth in the league table.

In the Champions League, an opening day victory over Sporting Braga was followed by a painful loss to Real Madrid last week.

Renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio and his Sky Sports colleague Massimo Ugolini, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has already held talks with Garcia and the club’s staff, to discuss the future of the project.

Sources say the conversation did not assuage de Laurentiis fears about Garcia’s suitability to the role.

The Napoli owner will now make a decision on Garcia’s future before the team returns from the international break.
