Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bolgatanga East Constituency, Dr Dominic Ayine, has revealed that there are threats by some members of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to vote against him in the parliamentary elections of 2024.

He explained that their resolve to not support his candidature is due to their dissatisfaction with one or two happenings in the party at the constituency level.

He however stated that despite the threats, he would work hard to win the election come December 2024 against his archrival, the candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

‘I’m hearing about “skirt and blouse” in my constituency. Those who lost in the constituency elections and primaries and so on say that they are going to vote for the NPP candidate and then vote for John Mahama.

But God willing, I will defeat them the same way I defeated them in 2020,” he said at an event to outdoor the women’s wing’s working committee of the NDC in the constituency.

Dr Ayine warned that voting skirt and blouse – voting for two different political parties – has grave repercussions for the party as evidenced in the party’s inability to form the Majority Caucus of the 8th Parliament because even though the NDC’s presidential candidate won in the Binduri Constituency, its parliamentary candidate lost.

“If we had a majority, I would have been Second Deputy Speaker. So the thing I want to say is that Binduri’s skirt and blouse alone led us to where we are,” he lamented.

Dr Ayine faces stiff competition from the NPP’s Silas Mathew Amoah in the 2024 election. Mr Amoah, through a well-executed campaign plan backed by philanthropy, enjoys unprecedented support from constituents given that the constituency is a stronghold of NDC.
