At the launch of Ghana’s National Electric Vehicle Policy by His Excellency the President at COP28 yesterday, I recounted the role of energy in the delivery of the policy. I indicated that electric mobility of goods and services is one of the strategic focuses to achieve net-zero energy economy for Ghana.
The launch of the policy, I said, is timely for the Ministry of Energy, as we are working to deal with excess generation capacity with cost implications, and to ensure adequate, reliable, and affordable low-carbon electricity for the Ghanaian economy.
Earlier, I had joined President Akufo-Addo deliver Ghana’s COP28 statement on the main stage where he minced no words expressing Ghana’s continued commitment to the global climate change agenda. I also joined Her Excellency, the Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia at an SE4ALL engagement on Ghana’s Energy Transition Investment Plan (ETIP) in support of insightful expositions on the subject by Deputy Minister Herbert Krapa.
The day ended with a statement on efforts to deploy Battery Energy Storage Systems to support renewables integration in Ghana at a side event under the auspices of SE4ALL.
