Emma Raducanu has been eliminated from the Auckland Classic after to a 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 defeat to second seed Elina Svitolina in the second round.
Raducanu who recently recovered after wrist and ankle surgeries, took a 5-1 lead in the first set before taking it in the tie-break.
Svitolina recovered from the setback to win the second after another tie-break and, with Raducanu tiring, took the third in just 31 minutes.
Raducanu will now hope to recover in time for the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne, while Svitolina faces Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova in the quarter final stage of the competition.
Raducanu will receive direct entry into the main draw for the Australian Open following American Lauren Davis’ withdrawal with a shoulder injury.
