A former Deputy Sports Minister under the John Dramani Mahama administration, Joseph Yammin is at a loss as to why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has abandoned the almost completed Nyinahini Sports complex in the Ashanti Region.

The NPP when it assumed office promised Ghanaians to have 10 stadia in all 10 regions.

Mr Yammin is worried that after all the funds were injected into that project, it has been left to rot.

He revealed on a Kumasi-based radio station monitored by MyNewsGh.com, that the NPP is not ready to develop the country but is only interested in sweet talks.

“I visited former Sports Minister Asiamah’s constituency which is where the stadium or sports complex is being built. Go out there and look at things for yourself. Everything has been left to rot. If you can’t go there, just go and check on my Facebook wall. I was there and did a live. When you stand on the pitch, the grass is at knee level. When a rat is running in it, you can’t spot it. They (NPP government) don’t care about anything in this country. “

“How can the money be spent on a project, the buildings, the tracks, the infrastructure and the same government leaves it to rot? This is not an NDC project oh, it’s an NPP project under Nana Addo and they have abandoned it”, he lamented.

Mr. Yammin  also erved as a Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, said he was shocked at one point when some people wanted Kototo FC and the Black Stars to be training at the Nyinahini Sports complex.

“I laughed when some people suggested, the Black Stars and Asante Kotoko can go and train there when the Kumasi Sports Stadium was under renovation or so. It tells you how people are disinterested in monitoring development in the region, but some of us are interested in what happens in the Ashanti region,” he said.

In 2017, the government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, announced a plan to construct 10 youth and sports centers in 10 regions.

The Nyinahini Sports complex is a 10-minute drive from the main entrance to town, which is home to Isaac Asiamah, a former sports minister.

However, since the NPP remained in power after the 2020 elections, most communities have witnessed a flurry of ASTRO turfs, which has become the new normal of football playing centers.
