North Tongu Member of ParliamentSamuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed grave worry at the alleged abandonment of a woman by a government hospital over an administrative issue.

The incident in which the said woman was abandoned and left to die happened in Winneba in the Central Region.

It has also attracted significant outrage on social media platforms.

According to Ablakwa, the matter demonstrates “the height of inhumanity and parliament should take an interest.”

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on June 14, 2024, the MP called for the summoning of the board and management of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, along with the Ministry of Health to give explanations on the issue.

“It has been reported that doctors and nurses at the Winneba Government Hospital just threw out a patient who had an accident because they couldn’t locate her family.

“They just took her in an ambulance and went and dumped her in the bush and she died after three days,” he stated.

He demanded thus: “we have to summon the Health Minister, the Ghana Health Service, and the board and management of the Winneba Government Hospital.”

Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin confirmed that he had already taken steps to get a full report about the incident from the hospital.

The Ghana Health Service in a statement dated June 14 said it had commenced investigations into the matter.

Accra-based Joy FM was the first media outlet to report about the abandoned woman on June 12. The report said she had been abandoned in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi.

In the last videos sighted on the unnamed woman, she had P.O.P on both legs, wrapped in a cloth with a wheelchair by her side under some shrubs in a bush.

Reports indicate that the woman was abandoned by an ambulance from the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba according to some eyewitnesses in the community.
