Asisat Oshoala emerged as the CAF 2023 Women’s Player of the Year winner from Monday’s ceremony in Marrakech.
The Nigerian has now won the award for a record extending sixth time in the history of African football.

Oshoala’s first club
Oshoala played for Lagos-based women’s club FC Robo from 2009 to 2013. At the end of the four year stint, she moved to Port Harcourt to join Nigerian giants Rivers Angels.
Her first taste of success was with Rivers Angels when she won the Nigeria Women’s Cup in her first year at the club.
In 2014, she led the team to go one better as they retained the Women’s Cup in addition to the Women’s League.
European adventure
Just when Nigerian fans thought they had found a bona fide super star in their domestic competitions, Europe’s big guns took notice and snapped Oshoala away.
Oshoala celebrates after scoring in her first win at Liverpool
In January 2015, Oshoala joined Women’s Super League side, Liverpool. Just like Rivers Angels, Liverpool never really got used Oshoala’s brilliance before Arsenal activated the release clause in her contract with Liverpool just a year into the agreement.
Oshoala was an instant hit in North London, leading Arsenal to win the 2016 FA Women’s Cup.
National team successes
Oshoala has represented Nigeria at three FIFA Women’s World Cups. Her goal in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over South Korea was nominated for Goal of the Tournament by FIFA.
Oshoala has also represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2014 and finished the tournament with both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball.
She has also won the Women’s African Cup Of Nations (formerly African Women’s Championship) on three occasions: in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
History Maker
On 27th July, 2023, Asisat Oshoala made history became the first Nigerian to score at three different World Cups.
The feat was achieved in Nigeria’s 3-2 win against Australia at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In 2020, the Nigerian footballer was named by Forbes Africa in the 30 Under 30 list.

According to Schoolings, Oshoala’s 2023 net worth is €50 million. The striker is understood to be receiving a weekly net wage of €10,000.
