Strengthen energy transition policies – NAPO to ECOWAS Energy Ministers

Ghana’s Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has urged colleagues from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to strengthen their energy transition policies.

This he noted will ultimately lead to the development of a robust regional transition framework to ensure that they achieve net-zero targets, in the context of our respective economic growths.

“I reminded colleague Ministers of the need for a robust regulatory framework for the operation of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Market anchored on transparency, competition, non-discrimination and environmental sustainability

I also stressed the need for member countries to strengthen their energy transition policies, which will ultimately lead to the development of a robust regional transition framework to ensure that, we achieve our net-zero targets, in the context of our respective economic growths”, he said after the meeting.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was in Cotonou, Benin on Saturday for the 15th Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers for Energy where deliberations centered on the review of the report of the meeting of experts on the procedure for granting licenses and authorizations to participate in the Regional Electricity Market, and the regulation of the surveillance of ECOWAS Regional Electricity market, among other crucial subject matters.

He disclosed that the meeting deepened the bond among ECOWAS Energy Ministers in our quest for Affordable, Available and Accessible energy, for the prosperity and progress of our countries.
