The Protocol arrangement at this year’s National Islamic Festival organized by the office of the National Chief Imam says Mahama should not receive cheers when he arrives.
According to Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Arimiyao, Mahama as a former President cannot be accorded the same courtesies incumbent political figures have.
The Protocol arrangement therefore require John Mahama to be brought by his vehicle straight to his sitting place without having to walk through the gathering to receive cheers from supporters.
On the contrary, the organizers say Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who is Vice President of the Republic is allowed to go round and greet patrons and attendees to the event which is a key gathering of Muslim leaders and followers of the National Chief Imam.
Some Supporters of the National Democratic Congress NDC in the Fadama and Abeka areas have accused the officials at the office of the National Chief Imam of seeking to “play politics” with a non-partisan event.
They allege some officials in the office of the Chief Imam are being taken care of by government hence doing everything possible to make Mahama unpopular among Moslem voters.
According to Zongomail, The National chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu will be hosting the Annual Maulid Nabih at Fadama on Saturday.
The National Maulid, organised by the National Chief Imam annually, is observed to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad, and this year’s edition will be held in Accra.
