Dates for Ghana’s AFCON matches revealed

Ghana will begin its AFCON 2023 campaign with a tricky test against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny.

The four time African Champions will hope for a better start to the tournament than their last outing when they suffered a 1-0 loss to Morocco.

The Black Stars last played Cape Verde in 2005, securing a 2-0 win as they qualified for their maiden FIFA World Cup. Ghana had beaten Cape Verde by the same score line in the reverse fixture.

Mohammed Kudus and Salis Abdul Samed who were both at the World Cup, could make their AFCON debuts in Ivory Coast

Ghana’s next group match will be against record winners of the competition, Egypt on Thursday, January 18 at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny.

The two sides last met in the tournament in the 2010 final in Angola when Nagy Gego’s goal delivered the last of Egypt’s seven AFCON titles.

Ghana will round up the group stage campaign with a match against Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe on Monday, January 18, 2024.

The 2023 AFCON is scheduled for Cote D’Ivoire from January 13 – February 11, 2024.
