Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has admitted to betting on AC Milan matches while he was a player at the Italian club.
The midfielder made the admission while giving his testimony at a hearing before the Italian Federation in Turin on Tuesday.
His employers Newcastle United are yet to comment on the matter.
Tonali was withdrawn from the Italian national team after he was named in a betting probe last week.
The 23-year-old told admitted before the committee that he placed bets including on matches that he played in while at A.C Milan.
His conduct violates to FIFA Code 26, which prescribes up to a three-year ban from worldwide football.
Tonali may however face a lesser ban for assisting the Federation with the investigation – and for admitting his guilt.
