Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah was the 16th Emir of Kuwait, serving from 29 September 2020 until his death on 16 December 2023.

He was born on 25 June 1937, the son of Sheikh Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the 11th Emir of Kuwait.

Sheikh Nawaf was a career military officer, serving as Minister of Interior from 1978 to 1988 and Minister of Defense from 1988 to 1991.

He was also the acting Minister of Labor and Social Affairs from 1991 to 1992.

In 2006, Sheikh Nawaf was appointed Crown Prince of Kuwait. He succeeded to the throne upon the death of his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, in 2020.

During his reign, Sheikh Nawaf focused on strengthening Kuwait’s economy and security. He also worked to promote peace and cooperation in the region.

Sheikh Nawaf was a respected leader who was known for his wisdom and moderation.

He was a strong advocate for Kuwait’s sovereignty and independence.

Sheikh Nawaf was a married man who was married for many years. He is survived by his wife Sharifa Sulaiman Al-Jasem Al-Ghanim.
