Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a swipe at persons who allege that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) must have been compromised due to the excellent results of Ghanaian candidates in the examination in the last few years.

He wondered why despite proof of Ghanaian candidates of WASSCE excelling in other jurisdictions, people for mere political reasons will question the integrity of the WASSCE just because Ghanaians are getting good results.

Recent analyses of the results of WASSCE show that beneficiaries of the free senior high school policy, a flagship policy of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), have had the best results, with over 50% passing all core with a grade between A1 and C6.

“Not sure how to shorten the headline but this is what he said:

Our SHS students go from Keta SHS to Harvard University and excel.

Our girls at Mamfe Senior High go for a world competition in robotics and win against teams from the USA, Germany and South Korea. Our boys from Prempeh College have won robotics world competitors against global competitors many times.

Yet when these same students excel at WASSCE some people for political reasons even question the integrity of their results!
Why do some always believe that it is impossible for our students or our people to be the best? It is possible! Congratulations to WASSCE students for their excellent performance in the examination,” Dr Bawumia wrote on social media.
