A total of 9,556 candidates who took the second phase of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination have failed to obtain the pass mark to be certified as professional teachers in Ghana. The figure represents 47.4 % of the total number of candidates who sat the professional examination.

On the other hand, 10, 625, representing 52.6% of the candidates, passed the examination and shall be duly certified as professional teachers in the country.

The National Teaching Council, which conducts the examination, has often come under criticism for the high rate of failure in the examination. But the outfit has insisted that each candidate is assessed fairly, and the integrity of the examination is intact.

The NTC began conducting and licensing teachers in 2018 in line with the law.
