General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Koduah Frimpong, has argued that there is a need for a reshuffling of government appointees to better position the NPP for victory in next year’s General Elections.

For him, there is the need for some new persons to take over from some of the current appointees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party works to retain power for a third consecutive term; i.e., break the eight.

Speaking  at the Annual Thanksgiving Service of the NPP held at the party’s national headquarters, Mr Kodua Frimpong, also appealed to appointees of Government to voluntarily resign from their positions if their occupying those positions does not inure to the benefit of the party, especially in its singular quest to win the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“If you[ appointees of Government] are tired, resign and leave so the party can retain power…If you are a Minister, a CEO or an MMDCE and you have not been reshuffled and you think you are tired, resign, don’t sabotage the party…It is time for some changes in the government so we get some new faces to continue. We believe that if we get new appointments, we will be able to retain power in the next election,” he said.

The Government of President Akufo-Addo has not seen frequent reshuffles. Some political watchers think that allowing appointees to stay in positions for long periods as witnessed under President Akufo-Addo has not helped his cause as President.
