Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has accepted responsibility for his role in the disappointing round of 16 exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023).

The pre-tournaments favorites, were eliminated after a 2-0 defeat to the Bafana Bafana at the Stade Laurent Pokou in San Pedro.

Speaking at the post match conference, Redragui said, “These are my choices, I don’t hide. I assume elimination.”

Morocco failed to convert any of the numerous chances they created in a generally wasteful performance.

Redragui would later admit, their profligacy is something the AFCON doesn’t tolerate.

On his future with the national team, the former Moroccan center back said, “I don’t want to express myself directly. We will decide what is best for the national team.”

Morocco have now failed to win the AFCON since they last won it in 1976, continuing a 48-year wait.
