A renowned Ghanaian Movie Producer and Director Richmond Afrane has accused the National Film Authority (NFA) of neglecting the Kumawood industry saying they have no plan to help the industry which has become the leading film production hub for Ghana.
Richmond Afrane also accused the NFA of not making Kumawood movie industry one of its priorities to help it bounce back.
Speaking to MyNewsGH.com in an interview, Richmond Afrane buttressed his claim saying almost every big events organized by the National Film Authority, especially during this Christmas festive season were held in Accra instead of considering Kumasi to host some.
To him, hosting events like the Ghana Cinema Week which was organized from December 15 to December 22 in Accra the capital could have been done in Kumasi instead.
This weeklong event by the NFA is intended to boost the viewership of Ghanaian films and also establish a sustainable distribution network for locally produced Ghanaian films. He also cited the Africa Film Summit organized by the NFA in Accra saying it could have provided larger opportunities for filmmakers in Kumasi if hosted there.
“It is sad all 2023 programmes by the National Film Authority were held in Accra without considering having a single one in Kumasi which has lots of producers”, Mr Richmond Afrane said.
He further urged the Government of the Republic of Ghana to put systems in place to have a good environment for investors to invest in the film industry which creates dozens of jobs for the youths”.
“NFA though doing their best yet what we need is identifying the major problems of the industry and fix it with key players for it to bounce back again”, he added.
