Ghana midfielder Kudus Mohammed rescued a point for West Ham United as they drew 2-2 with Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The 23 year-old came off the bench to score the leveler on the cusp of full time at the London Olympic Stadium.

West Ham had taken the lead through a fine Soucek finish after just eight minutes.

However, the capacity crowd was quietened when Swedish striker Alexander Isak responded with a second half quick fire double to turn the match on its head.

Kudus rifled home the leveler with a sublime half-volley

With a minute remaining on the clock, Kudus fired home a sublime finish from the edge of the penalty box to restore parity.

The goal is Kudus Mohammed’s first in the Premier League for West Ham since joining for £30m.

Speaking after the match, David Moyes could not hide his excitement.

“We were up against a really good team who are probably as good as most teams in Europe at the moment,”

“We nearly won it in the end, Newcastle played well and we didn’t give them too many opportunities.

“We had a few ourselves. For us, I’m pleased that we got a point here.”

Kudus has so far settled for a bit-part role in a West Ham team full of attacking talent.

Asked whether the 23-year-old will be rewarded with more game time, Moyes said: “He will be in the team for years to come so we are not in a huge hurry.

“The team is getting good results, but he can play a big role in the future.”

The result means West Ham are point above Newcastle United who have 13 points.

In Sunday’s other Premier League results,

Brighton and Hove Albion 2-2 Liverpool

Wolves 1-1 Aston Villa

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City
