Accra Lions defeated Karela United 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium in Friday’s action of the Ghana Premier League.

A stoppage time Ali Mohammed proved to be the decisive goal in a dramatic contest on Friday.

The drama started after just three minutes when Yahaya Mohammed rose highest to head home a corner kick after Abdul Mohammed Ganiyu had parried an earlier attempt.

After the goal, Accra Lions tried without success to press home their advantage in the first half.

Karela’s trident of Abdul Latif, Abdul Mumin and Mohammed Sulemana created problems of their own as the visitors threatened to restore parity.

Karela thought they had rescued a point when they scored a stoppage time goal to restore parity.

3’ Yahaya Mohammed with the opener!

Karela’s persistence paid off when Samuel Atta Kumi equalized for Karela, a minute into stoppage time.

However, their joy was short lived when Ali Mohammed struck a minute later for Accra Lions.

Lions held on for their second win in five matches.

The result moves Lions further up the table to 8th with 13points, and four points away from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Karela remain in the drop zone after amassing nine points from 10 matches this season.
