Tracy Owusu Addo, wife of musician Sarkodie waded into the conversations around locked up Global Fund donation of critical heath supplies at the Tema Port.

What appeared to be an unofficial explanation for the incident which has hogged news headlines in recent weeks quickly took a political tone when political activists jumped in to offer further explanations.

Tracy’s post touched on the government’s alleged 15% stake in Tema Port and how the facility in its current state was owned by a French billionaire.

“Gov.’s stake in the Tema Port is currently only 15%. We do not have a say in what happens at our Port since 2014. It is owned by French billionaire Bolloré who owns 17 other ports in West Africa,” the post read.

At the time of filing this report, the post had been views over 1.4 million times on X (formerly Twitter) with 679 comments, over 1,500 reposts and over 3,800 likes.

She attached a link to a 2021 Africa Confidential report titled: “SPECIAL REPORT: How Vincent Bollor won control of Ghana’s biggest port.”

Commenters were divided into two main groups – supporters and critics of her post.

Those that defended harped on the angle that it was under John Mahama’s administration that Bollore took control of the port.

While pro-opposition voices who have robustly criticized her post have pointed to the fact that the contract was for Bollore to Build-Operate-Transfer the port to Ghana, hence it cannot be said that he owns it.

Tracy’s critics also point to the fact that she is dabbling in unnecessary politics on the matter because of her husband’s known affiliation with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sarkodie campaigned for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2016 and 2020.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Bernard Okoe Boye has given express instructions for the locked up containers at the Port to be cleared as a matter of urgency.
