Olympique Marseille winger François-Regis Mughe has has turned down Cameroon’s invitation to represent the country at this month’s African Cup of Nations.
The 19-year-old who recently resumed training after a brief illness, has declined the invitation ostensibly to fight for a place in Marseille’s starting line up.
Despite a recent contract extension until 2028, Mughe is by no means a guaranteed starter in the Marseille team. He has played only seven matches and a total of two hundred and one minutes in all competitions.
The former Cameroun U-23 forward was one of eight attackers listed in Cameroun’s final AFCON squad for the tournament in Ivory Coast.
The Cameroonian Federation is yet to formally respond to Mughe’s decision. One of the options available to them is to file a formal complaint to FIFA against the player for a possible suspension.
