“My mom is currently in the ICU fighting for her life,” Kelley wrote. “She has a rare form of pneumonia that is affecting her breathing.
She is not able to breathe on her own and is on a ventilator. We are asking for prayers and any help you can provide.”
Retton is one of the most iconic gymnasts in American history. She won five medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, including gold in the individual all-around competition.
She was just 16 years old at the time, and her victory inspired a generation of young girls to pursue their dreams.
