One of the two aspiring parliamentary candidates of the Yendi constituency, Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama, has been urged to consider running in Tema West Constituency.

This is after the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) is reportedly resident in Tema West and has quite a substantial support on the ground.

Abibata would not be the first parliamentary candidate in the New Patriotic Party to switch constituency after a series of heavy defeats either in the main elections or in the party primaries.

Many had expected The MASLOC Boss to run in Tema West following the decision of incumbent Carlos Ahenkorah not to seek re-election but she rather opted to run in Yendi where she suffered a second successive defeat from Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama under controversial circumstances.

Hajia Abibata has since petitioned the national office of the New Patriotic Party to declare last Saturday’s polls in the area invalid.

According to her, the process, which commenced freely and fairly ended with substantial irregularities, infractions, violations and, therefore, “lost its validity.”

Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, addressed her petition to the General Sectary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

She made ten requests, some of which are; that the party should make an order prohibiting the incumbent MP, Farouk Mahama, from holding himself out as the elected parliamentary candidate.

She also wants all accomplices sanctioned, and an order for fresh elections to be held in the Yendi constituency.

Among her reliefs, she asked that “The Regional Party Officers who were also involved in the misconducts should be sanctioned… All EC officers who were complicit in the process should be sanctioned by the EC.” She demanded in her petition.

“Make an order prohibiting the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama from holding himself as the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) Elect of the Yendi Constituency for the 2024 Elections” and “Order for fresh elections to be conducted and supervised by competent, independent, and sincere Electoral Commission Officers, Party Officers, and Security Officers.
