Argentina captain Lionel Messi has won the Time magazine’s Athlete of the Year for 2023.
The award is Messi’s second in months after winning the Ballon d’Or for a record-extending eighth time in Monaco.
The Inter Miami forward was recognized for leading Argentina to their first World Cup title in 36 years in December last year.
“Messi managed to do what once seemed impossible: turning the U.S. into a soccer country,” Time wrote.
