The Ministry of National Security and the Ghana Armed Forces have justified the brutalization of residents of Garu, explaining that the operation was a move to seize weapons of some irate youth who had attacked some officials of the National Security and besieged a police station when the officials sought refuge there.
In a press release, the National Security detailed how some angry youth without provocation attacked its officials who had been deployed on official duty in the area. The Ministry stressed that the youth armed with AK 47 rifles fired indiscriminately into their officials with the intent of causing harm and failed to budge when the officials introduced themselves as operatives of the Ministry.
The Ministry lamented how when its operatives at the police station, the police station itself came under attack by the uncompromising youth.
The operation on Saturday, it said, was to seize weapons from the youth that had defied the state by attacking National Security officials.
The Ministry of National Security deems the attack on the security personnel at a police station as highly unacceptable and strongly condemns acts aimed at intimidating and harming officials of state security and intelligence agencies, and impeding them from effectively executing their mandate to safeguard the peace and stability of Ghana,” the press release said.
