Nigeria’s quest to leave mark on historic 20th appearance

Having won the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on three occasions Nigeria will make a 20th appearance, this time, in Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles will be in Ivory Coast with an array of talent, led by talismanic striker Victor Osimhen. While Osimhen is the most high profile of Nigeria’s team, the Super Eagles can boast of elite talents such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi, and Moses Simon.
Nigeria’s previous successes came in 1980, 1994 and in 2013.

Qualification Path:
The Super Eagles averaged 3.7 goals per match, scored 22 goals in total and conceded four goals in the process.
Player to Watch: Victor Osimhen
Osimhen’s four goals in the rout of Sao Tome and Principe ensured he finished as the top scorer in the AFCON 2023 Qualifiers with 10 goals.
The Nigerian made history by becoming the first African player to claim the prestigious Italian Serie A golden boot award, also known as the ‘Capocannoniere, as he finished the season with 26 goals.
Just like Drogba, Osimhen has strong aerial ability, brilliant hold-up play, goalscoring instincts and remarkable technical ability to go with.
