Novak Djokovic has defeated Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, 7-6 (7-1) 4-6 6-1 at the ATP Finals in Turin.

Hurkacz was a late replacement for Stefanos Tsitsipas who pulled out of the tournament with a back injury.

Although Djokovic won today’s contest, the world number one is not guaranteed a place in the semi-finals.

His qualification depends on the outcome of the contest between Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner. If Rune beats Jannik Sinner in the final group game later today, Djokovic will not progress.

However, Italy’s Sinner, who ended Djokovic’s 19-match winning streak on Tuesday, has already secured a place in the semis.

The 22-year-old is also guaranteed to finish at least second in the Green Group. He will become the first Italian to progress to the semi-finals of the season-ending tournament.

The ATP Finals features eight of the year’s best men’s players split into two groups of four, with the top two in each qualifying for the semi-finals.
