A group in the Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region calling itself Volunteers for NAPO is rallying behind the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Hon Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to be maintained.
“Volunteers for NAPO” led by Joe Duffuor Junior popularly known as Joe Waladi say they are proud of their Member of Parliament (MP) and pledge their full support because to them, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh who is also the Minister for Energy has never disappointed them since he took office.
Some old women in the constituency are also calling for the lawmaker to be re-elected as their parliamentary candidates in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Majority of these people think Mr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is the only one who can bring development to the constituency and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which he (NAPO) belongs to.
They find it hard to imagine what will happen to the constituency if the Minister for Energy Mr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is not re-elected as their Member of Parliament.
In a series of interview conducted in the constituency among members of the group, it was revealed that NAPO is the best bet to develop the constituency.
Madam Akua Konadu, a resident who is a seamstress indicated that Hon Matthew Opoku Prempeh gathered over 200 of them, took them through training and after provided them with machines and equipment to boost their businesses. Akua Konadu displayed the equipment she received from NAPO as she spoke with us.
“Our MP will always come to our doorstep to look for people to be recruited into the security service whenever there is an opportunity. He is too humble that, during every Xmas, NAPO will come with a gift to those of us who are old”. 60-year-old Mama Akua Pokua newsmen.
A resident of Dechemso, Ama Nkrumah corroborated the account of others and added that, after living in the community since 1972, she has seen massive development during NAPO’s tenure as their MP. “Today all our roads are tarred, we have gotten a modernized football pitch (Astro Turf) and our school has become a standard one all because of NAPO”, Ama Nkrumah said.
Currently, Manhyia South Constituency has three Astro Turf pitches serving various communities.
She described the infrastructural development in the area by NAPO as unprecedented and urged delegates to vote for him come January 27, 2024, in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
