Ghana’s AFCON 2023 chances have been handed a boost by the timely return of Thomas Partey from injury.

The Arsenal midfielder resumed training on boxing day as his journey to full recovery took a significant step.

Partey has not played since October after successive injuries kept him out of action for both club and country. He has recovered faster than initially anticipated after doctors ruled him out of action until the new year.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder stepped into the gym for the first time in two months as he began personal training earlier this month. Last week, he began running on grass as he continued his recovery.

On Boxing Day, Partey joined first team training as Arsenal prepared for the upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.

If Partey were to feature against West Ham on Thursday, it will significantly improve the possibility of being named in Ghana’s final AFCON 2023 squad.

Ghana coach Chris Hughton has named Thomas Partey in Ghana’s provisional 55-man squad for the tournament in Ivory Coast.
