Raphael Dwamena was a Ghanaian professional footballer who played as a striker for Albanian club KF Egnatia.
He was born on September 12, 1995, in Nkawkaw, Ghana, and died on November 11, 2023, at the age of 28.
Dwamena began his career with the Red Bull Ghana developmental program.
In 2013, he helped the RB Ghana U17 team to a silver medal performance at the International Tournament in Croix, France, and was named the tournament’s Best Player.
Following the tournament, Dwamena and his teammate, David Atanga, traveled to Austria for a one-week trial with FC Red Bull Salzburg. Dwamena impressed the Salzburg scouts and was offered a contract.
Dwamena joined the Salzburg youth team in January 2014 and immediately made an impact. In one tournament in June,he racked up seven goals in four games.
Dwamena was promoted to the Salzburg first team in the 2015/16 season and made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga on August 16, 2015, against SK Sturm Graz. He scored his first goal for the club on October 25, 2015, in a 4-2 win over FC Admira Wacker Mödling.
Dwamena had a breakout season in the 2016/17 season, scoring 11 goals in 29 league appearances. He also helped Salzburg win the Austrian Bundesliga title and the Austrian Cup.
Dwamena’s performances attracted the attention of several top European clubs, and he was eventually signed by FC Zürich in the summer of 2017.
Dwamena continued his good form at Zürich, scoring 16 goals in 33 league appearances in his first season at the club. He also helped Zürich qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
However, Dwamena’s career was derailed by a series of injuries in the following seasons. He missed the entire 2018/19 season with a knee injury, and he struggled to regain his fitness and form in the 2019/20 season.
In the summer of 2020, Dwamena joined Danish club Velje BK. He made 18 league appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals. However, Dwamena was released by Velje BK in the summer of 2021.
Dwamena joined Albanian club KF Egnatia in the summer of 2022. He made 12 league appearances for the club, scoring 3 goals. However, Dwamena passed away on November 11, 2023, at the age of 28, after a short illness.
Dwamena was a talented striker who had the potential to play at the highest level. He was strong, quick, and had a good eye for goal. However, his career was unfortunately cut short by injuries and illness.
Dwamena was also a popular figure among his teammates and fans. He was known for his positive attitude and his work ethic.
His death was a shock to the football world, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The Egnatia striker, who leads the Superior of Albania in scoring, suffered a heart attack during the Egnatia vs. Partizan game.
