Top Ghanaian journalist Gary Al-Smith was among FIFA’s electoral college for their annual Best Awards.
Gary Al-Smith, the group head of sports at the Multimedia Group’s, voted for Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland for the World Player of the Year.
The Manchester City striker scored a record 36 Premier League goals last season. In all competitions in 2022-23, he scored a club-record 52 goals – with 28 of them coming after the World Cup, plus another two goals this season before 20 August.
Gary’s second choice for the top award was Spain midfielder Rodri. The midfielder was part of Manchester City’s treble winning team.
Gary’s third choice was Nigerian center forward Victor Osimhen. The Napoli center forward finished last season as the topscorer of Serie A.
He was also voted as the Player of the Season for the competition.
By the end of Monday night in London, Lionel emerged as the men’s World Player of The Year for a record extending eighth time in his career.
